Medavie HealthEd Expands Paramedicine Program to Rural Nova Scotia

January 19, 2023

January 19, 2023 – HALIFAX, NS – Today, Medavie HealthEd announced plans to expand their Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) programming across the province through additional satellite campuses in the Stellarton and Yarmouth areas beginning in spring 2023.

Medavie HealthEd’s nationally accredited PCP program runs for 50 weeks and prepares students to work in different clinical environments across Nova Scotia. The program offers state-of-the-art equipment and highly skilled educators to ensure students gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to start their careers as a paramedic. The satellite campuses, in conjunction with our existing sites, help to ensure individuals across Nova Scotia have increased access to paramedic education as they seek to find fulfilling careers in the health care system.

“Paramedics play a vital role in bringing quality care to people in the communities they serve,” shared John Ferguson, President, Medavie HealthEd. “Individuals who complete our programming develop the sought-after skills and knowledge that make them highly employable across the country. Ninety-six per cent of our students find employment after graduation.”

The program begins with seven months of interactive classroom and practical simulation training followed by four months of in-the-field clinical and practicum training to gain real-world experience.

“The HealthEd PCP program has been a rewarding learning experience” Shared Ryan Hardy, a current Medavie HealthEd student. “In the classroom, the instructors use their knowledge and expertise to help us flourish. I am confident that the knowledge gained through this program will prepare me to be a well-rounded PCP who can make a difference in my community.”
