Modules 1: Orientation

Begin your journey into paramedicine by learning about program expectations, professional conduct, workplace safety, violence prevention, and hazardous materials awareness. This module establishes the foundation for success in both the classroom and the clinical environment.

Modules 2–3: Foundations of Paramedicine & Health Promotion

Explore the role of the paramedic as a healthcare professional, patient advocate, and community health leader. Topics include professionalism, communication, mental wellness, patient movement, health promotion, injury prevention, and building resilience for a career in emergency medical services.

Module 4: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

Develop a strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology as the foundation for patient assessment and clinical decision-making. Learners examine body systems and how normal function relates to illness, injury, and emergency care.

Modules 5–6: Ethical and Legal Issues / EMS Systems and Operations

Gain an understanding of the legal, ethical, and operational responsibilities of paramedics. Topics include professional accountability, patient rights, regulatory requirements, ambulance operations, vehicle safety, infection prevention, and emergency vehicle driving principles.

Module 7: Introduction to Pharmacology

Learn the principles of medication administration and pharmacology relevant to Primary Care Paramedic practice. Hands-on training includes medication routes, intravenous access, medication safety, dosage considerations, and clinical application of commonly used emergency medications.

Modules 8–9: Principles of Trauma & Patient Assessment

Master the systematic approach to patient assessment and trauma care. Learners develop skills in history taking, physical examination, vital signs assessment, clinical reasoning, documentation, communication, and the management of traumatic injuries across all age groups.

Modules 10–11: Airway Management & Respiratory Emergencies

Learn to recognize and manage respiratory emergencies using a variety of airway and oxygenation techniques. Practical skills include airway management, oxygen therapy, suctioning, ventilation support, respiratory assessment, and treatment of common respiratory illnesses and injuries.

Module 12: Cardiology

Develop the knowledge and skills required to assess and manage cardiovascular emergencies. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, ECG interpretation, resuscitation, cardiac pharmacology, and the treatment of conditions such as chest pain, heart failure, and cardiac arrest.

Module 13: Neurology, Psychological Health, and Endocrine Emergencies

Examine neurological, psychiatric, and endocrine disorders commonly encountered in prehospital care. Learners develop assessment and management strategies for conditions such as stroke, seizures, diabetes-related emergencies, behavioural crises, and mental health presentations.

Module 14: Integumentary and Musculoskeletal Trauma

Focus on the assessment and management of soft tissue injuries, burns, fractures, dislocations, wounds, and musculoskeletal trauma. Learners gain practical experience in immobilization techniques, hemorrhage control, and trauma-related interventions.

Modules 15–16: Shock, Immunology, and Infectious Disease

Explore the recognition and management of shock states, allergic reactions, immune-related conditions, and infectious diseases. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment, infection prevention and control, and evidence-informed treatment strategies.

Module 17: Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Emergencies

Study common gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders and emergencies, including abdominal pain, renal conditions, bleeding, infections, and trauma. Learners apply assessment findings to develop appropriate care plans and treatment priorities.

Module 18: Obstetrics and Neonatal Care

Prepare to assess and manage obstetrical and neonatal emergencies. Learners gain confidence in caring for pregnant patients, assisting with childbirth, managing complications of pregnancy, and providing care to newborns during the critical first moments of life.

Module 19: Environmental Emergencies

Learn to recognize and treat illnesses and injuries caused by environmental exposures. Topics include heat and cold emergencies, drowning, altitude-related illness, radiation exposure, and preparing patients for air medical transport.

Module 20: Dangerous Situations

Develop the skills needed to safely manage complex and potentially hazardous incidents. Topics include toxicology, multiple-casualty incidents, incident command systems, CBRNE awareness, crime scene considerations, and collaboration with emergency response partners.

Module 21: Special Population Groups

Explore the unique healthcare needs of diverse patient populations, including older adults, palliative patients, individuals with physical disabilities, and those experiencing cognitive or mental health challenges. Learners focus on patient-centred care, community resources, and adapting assessment and treatment strategies to meet individual needs.

Module 22: Medical Terminology

Build fluency in the language of healthcare. Learners develop the terminology, abbreviations, and documentation skills necessary for clear communication, accurate reporting, and effective collaboration within healthcare teams.

Module 23: Integration

Bring together all aspects of paramedic knowledge and practice through immersive scenario-based learning. High-fidelity simulations challenge learners to integrate assessment, treatment, communication, teamwork, and critical decision-making skills in realistic patient care situations.

Module 24: Patient Experience (Clinical and Practicum)

Apply classroom knowledge in real-world healthcare settings through supervised clinical placements and ambulance practicum experiences. Learners work alongside experienced healthcare professionals while developing and demonstrating the competencies required of an entry-to-practice Primary Care Paramedic.
